Topic A: Human Rights in Armed Conflict – Protecting Civilians in Urban Warfare
Topic B: Systemic Discrimination Against Indigenous People
One of the UN’s four pillars is the responsibility to promote and protect human rights. The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is an intergovernmental division of the UN responsible for promoting and protecting human rights by addressing urgent situations of human rights violations. As a member of the 47 states included in the UN Human Rights Council, delegates are entrusted with addressing urgent international crises that affect our most vulnerable populations. With discussion of topics like human rights during armed conflicts and systemic discrimination among the indigenous, delegates are encouraged to create multilateral solutions that focus on aiding communities subject to such human rights violations. Delegates should promote proposals that support advocacy, reactive aid, stronger legal frameworks, and accountability mechanisms.
